Murder: SC commission summons police chief

Posted by Anil Kath On 9:57 AM No comments
Unhappy with the pace of investigation by Delhi police into the abduction-cum-murder of Srikant Singh, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) on Monday issued a mandatory summon to the Delhi Police commissioner BK Gupta. In a letter on behalf of NCSC chairperson PL Punia,

the commission has asked Gupta to appear on August 10.
The headless body of Singh, 27, son of a section officer in NCSC, was discovered on July 30 on a roadside in Asalwas village under Kasola police station of Haryana's Rewari district. He had gone missing on July 29 along with his Santro car. Police had last located him, with the help of his mobile phone, in Greater Noida.
Jagjeet Singh, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Punia, said the mandatory summon was sent after Gupta did not appear before the commission on Monday and instead sent Chayya Sharma, DCP (south).
"Our chairperson had to interfere since proper investigation was not being made into the case. The chairperson tried to personally contact the Delhi Police commissioner three-four times. However, the police commissioner showed no interest after which a summon was sent to him on Friday. He was asked to appear before the commission on Monday. But he did not turn up," said the OSD.
The OSD added that the commission will write to the ministry of home affairs to intervene, in case the police commissioner fails to appear.
DCP Sharma said she appeared to brief about the development made by them in the case. Sources said the police believe that Singh was murdered in Greater Noida and his body was dumped in Haryana. Police are yet to recover his car.

Two persons have been arrested for the murder of a 26-year-old man at Lisana village near Rewari on July 25, police said on Monday.
Parma Nand Yadav and his brother-in-law Sandeep Yadav, both residents of Alwar district in Rajasthan, were arrested for the murder of Ajay Yadav, also a resident of Alwar, whose body was recovered by the police here.
The police has also seized from them the knife that was used in the crime. The duo was produced before the Duty Magistrate here who remanded them in judicial custody, the police said. The said the call details of the mobile phone found from the deceased facilitated the apprehension of the duo.
Ajay was adamant on continuing his love affair with Parma Nand's elder sister even after her recent marriage with Sandeep.
Parma Nand and Sandeep brought Ajay to the spot near Lisana village on July 24. There the three consumed liquor and when Ajay got inebriated, he was killed following which the body was dumped there, police said.

Before leaving home in South Moti Bagh on July 29, Srikant Singh told his family he would be back in an hour. He did not keep his word, and 10 days later all that the family has is a video that police say shows his decapitated body, but which the 26-year-old’s young wife insists is not of her husband.
The headless body that police say belonged to Srikant was found in Kasola village of Rewari in Haryana on July 30. The local police cremated it three days later, after failing to identify it.
“The head of the deceased has not been recovered yet. The motive of the killer was to hide Singh’s identity. We have positive leads and the case will be worked out soon,” said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (South). Srikant’s i-10 car too remains untraced.
Srikant’s father Shishpal Singh said his son left home around 12.30 pm on July 29 in a hurry after he got a call from a former colleague, Sanjay Bhattacharya. “Srikant did not even change. Bhattacharya had asked him to come to his office in Saket. I spoke to my son at 4.45 pm, but found his phone switched off when I called fifteen minutes later,” Singh said.
According to the father, the last call from Srikant’s phone was made from Greater Noida. At 8 am the next day, with still no word from his son, Singh went to the police.
Lata, Srikant’s 24-year-old wife of six months, refuses to believe that her husband is no more. Clad in a red salwar-kameez, with vermillion on her forehead and with her bangles intact, she said the body the police cremated did not belong to her husband.

New Delhi:  The beheaded body of a 26-year-old man, missing from his home in New Delhi for more than a week, has been found in Haryana's Rewari district, police said on Sunday.

Srikant Singh, an insurance advisor for a healthcare company, was missing since July 29 after he left his home at Moti Bagh in South Delhi, police said.

Srikant's father Seespal Singh complained to the police that his son left in his I-10 car, saying that he will return in half an hour, but never returned.

"We registered a kidnapping case after 24 hours of his missing complaint," said a senior police officer.

However, it was only on Saturday that police of Rewari district informed Delhi Police that a beheaded body wrapped in a bed sheet, with the cut-off head near it, was lying in Kasola village and identified it as Srikant's.

"The mobile phone was lying 10 feet away from the dead body but there was no indication of his car," said the officer.

Police said that they are looking into every angle, and are also trying to trace the missing car.

Hooda-Yadav rift widens
Chandigarh: THE war of wits between Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his detractor, power minister Captain Ajay Singh Yadav, flared up again on Thursday after the chief minister canceled his visit to Rewari for a function organised by Yadav.
Yadav, Rewari MLA, said he had no idea why the CM could not reach the venue where an ROB was to be inaugurated. He refused to comment any further.
Sources, however, claimed that other than going for the function, Hooda had planned several meetings with local Congress leaders — majority of whom were against Yadav.
According to sources close to the power minister, Yadav — taking this as a move by the chief minister to gather support against him — contacted the Congress high command, which reportedly intervened. It asked Hooda not to hold meetings with other party leaders. This, however, seems to have led to the chief minister to cancel the entire visit.

Rewari (Har), Aug 4 (PTI) Suspecting her husband of having an extra-marital affair, a newly married woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her parental house at Kosli, 30 kms from here, police said today. The incident took place yesterday when the victim, identified as Nisha Yadav committed suicide, they said. Acting on a complaint lodged by Nisha's father, Virender Singh Yadav, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered against her husband Praveen Yadav, a resident of Vasant Kunj colony in Delhi.According to the complaint, Nisha, who got married on April 15, 2011, recently came to know that her husband was having extra marital relations with another girl and brought the matter to the notice of her parents, police said. Consequently when Nisha's parents made efforts to bring her husband "on the right track", he allegedly started subjecting Nisha to cruel treatment, they said. GURGAON: Gurgaon MP Rao Indrajit Singh and Rewari MLA Ajay Singh Yadav came together on one platform on Sunday and spoke in the same voice, giving Chandigarh the jitters.
The alliance of prominent Yadav leaders from Souther Haryana is being seen as a consolidation against chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
While it was said that the event was organised only to felicitate the newly elected Gurgaon mayor and his deputies, the two leaders from Ahirwal region managed to pull over 10,000 Congressmen.
Political observers see this as a show of strength by the two Yaday leaders, who have been sidelined by Hooda in recent times.
Ajay Singh, who was the second most senior minister in the Hooda cabinet, was stripped of his finance portfolio recently.
Similarly, the face-off between Hooda and Indrajit Singh had come to light only a few days after the Gurgaon municipal elections.
While the Hooda camp was supporting another Independent for the mayor's post, the local MP stood behind Vimal Yadav. But sources said that after an over one-and-a-half-year truce between Singh and Hooda, differences had resurfaced recently.
They said that Indrajit was not allowed to address a rally in Mewat that was attended by the party president, Sonia Gandhi, despite the fact that he is representing the Lok Sabha constituency. The two leaders sent a strong message to the Hooda camp when they hugged each other on the stage to show their unity. The need to strengthen the Ahirwal community was also stressed by other leaders who attended Sunday's programme.
Yadavs, who are known as Ahirs, are in a majority in southern Haryana and they play the key role in the politics of this region. Veteran Congress leaders feel that the two leaders have come together in the wake of Indrajit Singh not getting a berth in the Union Cabinet. "They are in a relationship of mutual need and if they stay together they will be recognized as a force to reckon with," said a party leader.
