Hisar: A youth was killed allegedly in police firing on an unruly mob of Jat protesters near the railway track of Ramayan station on Tuesday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Sandeep (20), son of Jog Raj, a resident of Mayar. The bullet pierced through his stomach. The body was taken

to the civil hospital, Hisar, by victim’s friend Manoj.
However, the police sources denied the charge, saying the protesters were carrying arms and Sandeep died of bullet fired by one of the protesters. ASP Rahul Sharma was seriously injured in the clash. There were rumours of another death in the clash, which could not be confirmed.
On Monday, the police had detained top leaders of the community, who had been agitating near the railway track. Angry over the incident, Jat leaders on Tuesday gathered at Ladwa village and decided to squat on the railway track and moved towards the railway track of Ramayan station. A big crowd from the surrounding villages also joined them.
The police force first used tear gas shells and water cannon to disperse the mob, but when the protesters started pelting stones the police resorted to lathicharge and fired shots in the air.
About two dozen people were injured from both sides due to stone throwing by Jats and lathi charge by the police. Some of the injured were sent to Hansi and Hisar civil hospitals and seriously injured have been referred to PGI, Rohtak. IG, deputy commissioner, SP and SDM have reached the spot.
The rail traffic remained suspended, except for one goods train that was sent from Hisar to Rewari after police chased away the protesters. Among the injured, three have been identified as Kuldip and Yashpal of Ladwa and Pawan of Dhanderi.
