GURGAON: In what comes as a relief for train commuters to Jaipur from the city, the North Western Railway has laid a new line between Rewari and Jaipur.

Till now, there used to be only a single line on this route and many trains, including Rajdhani and Garib Rath, used to halt for hours because of this impediment. With doubling of this line, commuters can expect the journey time to be cut short by at least an hour.

The line is now ready to use with the commissioner of railway safety giving his nod after inspection on Wednesday. Railway authorities are expecting to receive the required safety certificate in a day or two before launching operations on the line.

"This line is made in such a way that trains can run at a speed of 200 kmph. Work on laying the second line was started in 2006 and was divided into three phases. Phase one is now ready and the track linking work between Rewari and Alwar is on. We expected to fish that work by March," said a railway official.

Commuters are looking forward to a faster train ride to the Pink City. "Most of the time, people prefer to travel by road to Jaipur just to save time. I usually prefer trains for their comfort, but on this route I commute by road only. I am sure many passengers like me would now consider taking the train since it would also be economical than buses," said Pramod Kumar, a frequent traveler to Jaipur.
