NEW DELHI: The railway ministry will invite bids for the first phase of the 1,483-km western freight corridor by May, according to a top official of the railway subsidiary that is executing the project. The move is part of a strategy to de-congest freight lines and accommodate the growing industrial traffic.

The 640-km project-part of the 920 km Rewari-Vadodara stretch-is awaiting approval from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which is funding the project, to begin financial bidding.

It will be the second project along the 3,322-km Dedicated Freight Corridor to be put on the block. In January, the government had awarded the first project-343-km of the 1,839-km Eastern Corridor-to Tata-Aldesa JV. Preparatory work on this Rs 3,300 crore Kanpur-Khurja section is likely to be completed by June.

The Dedicated Freight Corridor project, being implemented by the railways through the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corp of India Ltd ( DFCCIL), aims to connect the important freight lanes between Delhi and Mumbai in the west and Ludhiana and Dankuni in the east.

The 640-km project on the Western Corridor is likely to go to either the consortium between Japan's Sojitz Corp and Larsen & Toubro or Mitsui, Ircon and Leighton. The government plans to invite bids for about 1,500 km of freight corridor lines by the end of this fiscal, most of which will be in the western corridor. "Of the 1,500 km, 950-1,000 km will be from the western corridor while 400 km will be from the eastern corridor," DFCCIL's MD, RK Gupta, told ET.

According to officials, these projects are likely to cost about 10 crore per km and can help reduce CO2 emission by 450 million tonne over the next 30 years. About 90% of the land required for the stretches has already been acquired by DFFCIL. "The remaining portions are in difficult places or require alignment changes. We should be able to complete this in six months," Gupta said.

Darbar held at Rewari village

Posted by Anil Kath On 3:06 PM No comments
GURGAON: In an attempt to take governance at the doorstep of villagers, Rewari district administration held 'Khula Darbar' in Dahina village on Tuesday. Under this programme, deputy commissioner and team of administrative officers lived in camps in the village on Monday night.

A cultural event was also organized in the village school by a local cultural group. The artistes presented a play on female feticide and on importance of literacy. The play was directed by theater personality Satish Mastan.

"As Khula Darbar is meant for addressing public grievances, many problems were addressed on the spot," said Surajbhan, DPRO, Rewari.

"We are trying to educate villagers about hygiene. The education, health and cleanliness are co-related with each other and the educated citizen could be maintained fully neatness his house, village and surrounding. The villagers would be educated about the government schemes and the eligibility criterion," said C G Rajnikanthan, deputy commissioner, Rewari.

A sanitary campaign was initiated on Tuesday morning, which was followed by a sporting event. The "Khula Darbar" started at 10.30 and officers from 10 different departments were present to hear public grievances.

REWARI: While Gurgaon railway station awaits a long-pending facelift and Mewat district lacks a railway line altogether, Haryana did get a new railway line after 33-years with the inauguration of the Rewari-Rohtak line on Tuesday. This is expected to boost trade and industries along this rail corridor.
The new line will connect Rewari to Rohtak via Jhajjar and is expected to serve as a significant link to connect Jaipur with Chandigarh and the ports in Western India.
The last time Haryana got a railway line was the one connecting Bhiwani with Rohtak, which was laid in 1979. This new broad gauge link between Rewari and Rohtak is 81.257 km and is expected to reduce traveling distance by nearly 50 km. The cost of laying this line is estimated at Rs 602 crore, of which, half has been shared by Haryana. The rail project was sanctioned in 2004-05 with an estimated cost of Rs 476 crore on 50% coast sharing basis with that state of Haryana.
There are five stations en route, namely Gokalgarh, Palhawas, Maccharauli, Jhajjar and Dighal, covering three districts - Rewari, Jhajjar and Rohtak. The rail line will benefit the residents of 41 surrounding villages which fall in two parliamentary constituencies and eight assembly segments.
On Tuesday, a special train was flagged off from Rewari railway station by the Union minister of state for railways K J Surya Prakash Reddy and Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in the presence of Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda and state minister for power and forests Capt Ajay Yadav. Hooda said the new rail line will usher in industrial development in the region.
Hooda said during the INLD-BJP regime in 1999-2005, an amount of Rs 435.48 crore was spent in Rewari assembly area, while after 2005, when the present Congress government came into power, Rs 3,169.43 crore have been spent which, is more than seven times the expenditure made by INLD-BJP government.
Lashing out at the opposition, the younger Hooda said, "In future, there will be a clash between two political ideologies, one is of development which the present Congress government practices and the other is of vested interests, practiced by the opposition parties."
Supporting the demand of starting a Shatabdi Express between Jaipur and Chandigarh, Hooda junior said this new railway line will accelerate the pace of development. He demanded to develop railway stations of Rewari and Rohtak as Model Railway Stations like that of stations of state capitals. Another survey is being done for a line connecting Palwal with Rewari. However, skeptics said the much-needed link, connecting the southern-most district of the state, Mewat, with the rest of Haryana, is a long-pending.
"Once can look at the new railway link as an opportunity to give Rohtak, the home constituency for the CM and his son. There are already exiting links connecting Rohtak," said a political expert.

Rewari (Har): A youth has been arrested for allegedly trying to rape a teenage girl in Khaleta village near here about a fortnight ago.

The accused Sombir was produced before the local court today which sent him to a 14-day judicial custody, police said.

The girl's uncle had alleged that on December 17, the accused, along with his accomplices Pradeep and Ajay, had tried to sexually assault the 17-year-old when she was working in the fields, they said.

Efforts are being made to nab the other two accused who are absconding, police added.

Rewari: Police arrested a rape accused Ranbir, who had been on the run for the past about two months, from the bus stand of Nangal Mundi village, 12 km from here.
Police said here today that when the call details of the victim's mobile phone revealed that the accused, doctor, had asked her to meet him at Nangal Mundi bus stand; they laid a trap and apprehended him last night.
While the lady doctor (45) had been running her own clinic at Dahina village, 23 km from Rewari, for the past about 7 years, Ranbir had his own clinic at Boodhi Bawal village in Alwar district of Rajasthan and both of them were old acquaintances.
In the first week of November, 2012, when Ranbir came to know that the lady doctor, who is a widow, was not feeling well, he came to Dahina by car, administered some sedative to her and then allegedly raped her and went away.
Subsequently when the lady doctor regained consciousness, she filed a complaint on November 6 following which the police registered a case of rape against the accused, who had been on the run since then.

REWARI: Haryana power minister Ajay Singh Yadav has written to the Centre about the sluggish pace of work being carried out by the NHAI for the widening and strengthening work on the Pink City Expressway (Delhi-Jaipur stretch on NH-8) and the Chandigarh Expressway (Rewari-Chandigarh stretch NH-1), which has already missed its 2012 deadline.
In his letter, Yadav said while travelling on these two national highways, he has observed that the work, including construction of overbridges, has either come to a halt or is moving at a very slow pace. "These two highways are always flooded with high speed traffic. The delay in completing the work has resulted in frequent traffic jams and inconvenience to highway users," reads the letter.
Yadav urged the Union minister to look into the matter and direct the authorities concerned to expedite the balance work.
The development comes close on the heels of the NHAI and the Pink City Expressway Private Limited being pulled up by the Gurgaon administration and asking them to complete the work in a time-bound manner during his review meeting recently. on the progress work of the six-laning of the national highway 8 between Kherki Dhaula and Kotputli in Rajasthan
.This was while Gurgaon deputy commissioner P C Meena was reviewing the work and expressed concern over the tardy pace and directed the authorities to conduct a survey of the left out pockets of land required for the project, meticulously within a week.

REWARI: Heavy fog affected normal life and brought air, rail and road traffic to a halt in the morning hours in most parts of Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday even as three persons lost their lives in an accident caused by low visibility on Delhi-Rewari road.
All flights from Chandigarh airport were cancelled and many flights were delayed at the Amritsar international airport.
The dense fog also delayed almost all trains reaching Chandigarh railway station. According to railway officials, trains reaching Chandigarh from Delhi, Bathinda and Kanpur, were running behind schedule by many hours.
Meanwhile, three persons died in a road accident on Delhi-Rewari road near Junawas village on Tuesday morning as an auto rickshaw and mini bus collided owing to low visibility caused by dense fog. Three of the auto travellers died and some others suffered injuries, officials said.
In Himachal, much to the disappointment of tourists, dry weather conditions prevailed across the state.
With minimum temperature of minus 7.1 degrees Celsius, Keylong town of Lahaul-Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh remained coldest while Una town remained the hottest with maximum temperature of 23 degrees Celsius.
Met officials said that mid and high hills of the state would receive rain or snow at isolated places on Thursday.
Shimla on Tuesday recorded minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius while maximum temperature here remained 16.4 degrees Celsius. Dharamshala recorded minimum temperature of 7.4 degree Celsius and maximum temperature of 17.4 degree Celsius. Tourist town of Manali recorded minimum temperature of minus 0.2 degree Celsius and maximum temperature of 14.2 degree Celsius.

REWARI: A social panchayat of 21 villagers in Rewari has attributed the refusal of 50 girlsfrom Sumo village to attend school, alleging eve-teasing, to the marriage of a girl from Sumo village with a youth of adjacent Lala village in violation of social norms.
The panchayat said matrimonial alliances between two villages are prohibited, but the couple flouted this social norm.
The panchayat members suspect the marriage became a pretext for certain elements of Lala village to make comments about the girl from Sumo village.
Rewari: In a first endeavour aimed at educating the farmers' community, Haryana has launched a 12-day train tour for its progressive farmers who will visit a number of places across the country.

The special train "Haryana Mandi Kisan - Bharat Darshan", carrying 400 progressive farmers from the state, was flagged off by state Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Delhi Cantt Railway Station in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The train will stop at Jaipur for the first night halt and will later travel to Ujjain, Dwarka and Aurangabad and will reach Nasik Road on January 4. The return journey will start on January 5 and will pass through Jaipur, Rewari, Delhi and Ambala, before reaching Chandigarh on January 6.

Hooda said the tour has been conducted for farmers for the first time in the country and they will interact with traders and farmers and discuss with them the status of agricultural produce and market prices.

This way, he said, farmers will get the knowledge as to which place needs what produce more than others. They will make their contacts in markets at such places to sell their produce in future and get better prices, the Chief Minister said.

A spokesman of the Haryana Agriculture Marketing Board said for the purpose of purchasing farmers' produce, 100 collection centres will be established in the state, particularly for their perishable products.

After purchasing the produce, they will be kept in cold stores, which will lessen the loss of farmers and increase their income, he said. This educational venture has been planned for the benefit of farmers for the first time in the country, he added.
