BUROLI Constable Tanvir murdered over property dispute

A police constable was allegedly gunned down by two land grabbers who pumped five bullets into him in his one-room accommodation at Baprolla in West Delhi on Wednesday night. One of the accused has been arrested.

Twenty-eight-year-old Constable Tanvir was posted as a beat officer under the jurisdiction of Ranhola police station. After his shift on Wednesday, he returned to his residence around 10-30 p.m. An hour later, the police received a call about some quarrel and on reaching the spot found the constable dead. Preliminary examination of Tanvir's body revealed five puncture wounds.

Ten teams were formed to follow various leads in the case. The police learnt that two property agents named Ravinder Singh and Pradeep Sharma, both residents of Baprolla village, could be involved in the murder as the beat officer had intervened when the duo harassed land owners in the area. The accused had on August 22 tried to stop one Shyambir from constructing a boundary wall on his plot, claiming that the property belonged to them.

Responding to the distress call, Constable Tanvir reached there and got Ravinder arrested for breach of peace. His accomplice Pradeep fled from the spot. Ravinder had then allegedly threatened him with dire consequences. The duo allegedly conspired to eliminate the constable. On Wednesday night, they entered his residence and gunned him down.

Acting on a tip-off that Pradeep had been spotted near a Najafgarh drain, the police arrested him in the early hours of Thursday. During interrogation, he purportedly confessed to the crime.

Additional Commissioner of Police (West Delhi) V. Renganathan said Ravinder Singh was previously involved in three cases. In July, he along with Pradeep had allegedly quarrelled with a property dealer, during which they set his office on fire.

Constable Tanvir, who belonged to Rewari in Haryana, had joined the Delhi Police in 2003 and was posted in West Delhi three years ago. He had been working with the Ranhola police station for the past two years as beat officer. He is survived by his wife and two children.

“The post-mortem on his body was conducted at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. The body has been handed over to his father,” said Mr. Renganathan.

Rewari (Har), Sep 27 (PTI) Perturbed over the condition of her daughter who was married at the age of 13 due to her grandparents' insistence, a woman has approached a local court seeking nullification of the marriage. Sapna Devi, a resident of Rewari, yesterday filed a petition in the court of district and sessions judge here, seeking nullification of the marriage under provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. Justice Sneh Prashar, who took note of the petition today, posted the matter for hearing on October 29. "At the insistence of the grandparents, the girl, a student of class VII, was married to a 23-year-old youth, employed in a private company in Gurgaon, on March 6, 2011," Neelam Sharma, district protection and child marriage prohibition officer and counsel for Sapna, said. Recently, the girl, who was staying at her husband's house in Gurgaon, returned home and complained about the ill-treatment meted out to her, Sharma said. When the girl refused to go back to her husband, her mother Sapna approached the court through the counsel. "The girl told her parents that she wanted to pursue further studies and does not want to go back to her husband's house," Sharma said.

Rao Inderjit hits out at Haryana bureaucracy

Rewari (Har), Sep 22 (PTI) Former Union minister and ruling Congress MP from Gurgaon, Rao Inderjit Singh, today hit out at the bureaucracy in Haryana, saying it was functioning in an unbridled manner. Singh, a known detractor of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, said, "The officialdom (bureaucracy) in Haryana has gained such dominance that even an MP (referring to himself) of the ruling party has been reduced to a non-entity in matters of governance what to speak of the common man." at Rewari B Tech student assaulted, killed

Rewari (Har), Sep 21 (PTI) A 22-year-old B Tech student, who was going to meet his injured uncle in hospital, was today killed and two of his relatives were injured when they were allegedly assaulted by a group of men near Bawal, police said. Yash Pal (22), a resident of Bharangi village and student of B Tech at Faridabad, was killed while Sunil and Kanwar Singh sustained grave injuries after they were allegedly assaulted by Satbir and some others, who were armed with lethal weapons at Bharangi village, they said. Police said that earlier in the day Chhaju Ram, uncle of Yash Pal, sustained injuries after he was allegedly attacked by Satbir and others at Bharangi village during an altercation. Chhaju Ram was later admitted to the Community Health Centre at Bawal. Later when Yash Pal, Kanwar Singh and Sunil were going on a motor cycle to the health centre, Satbir and others allegedly attacked them violently in which Yash Pal was killed. Kanwar Singh, who received serious injuries, has been referred to Gurgaon, while Sunil has been hospitalised here. Bawal police have registered a case of murder in this regard.

Rewari Woman stabbed to death, body dumped at deserted place

Rewari (Har), Aug 28 (PTI) A 32-year-old widow was stabbed to death by some unidentified persons who later dumped her body at a deserted place at Kosli here, police said today.The incident took place last night when Kiran Devi was killed by some unidentified assailants, they said, adding that her body was recovered later.After a complaint was filed by Sube Singh, the deceased's father, a case was registered in connection with the incident. After the demise of her husband Surender Singh, who committed suicide in 2009, Kiran, along with her three children, had been living at Kosli in a separate portion in the house of her in-laws with whom her relations were strained.
